The input resistance as seen by the base multiplies the emitter resistance by β + 1. Typical values of current gain β vary from 50 to 150. High-input resistance provides isolation between the input and output parts of the circuit. Also, when little current is drawn from the source, you have longer battery life for portable applications, letting you play games on your smartphone for longer stretches.
